Lefa Ifa Secondary School has obtained the highest matric pass rate among Kwa-Thema schools for 2024.

At the begining of 2024, Dr Disekeletšo Saboshego, the school’s principal, vowed to achieve a 90% pass rate, and they excelled with a 91.1%.

“It was all through the hard work and dedication of my teachers,” said Saboshego.

For many years, Lefa Ifa Secondary School remained at the bottom of the list in the NCS exams. Their class of 2022 only managed 53.4%.

But in 2023, Lefa Ifa became the most improved school in Kwa-Thema, Kwatsaduza and Gauteng East.

“We had no less than 20 study camps last year, and we see now how it has paid off,” she explained.

During the study camps, the learners receive extra lessons with their teachers. They also get hours of supervised self-study sessions through the night.

Saboshego added that despite deciding not to host study camps on weekends, the learners insisted on studying on the campus.

“The attitudes of the learners, parents and teachers changed for the best after we achieved 75.2% in 2023. They saw what we can achieve if we put in the effort. Now I don’t have to convince them anymore,” she said.

Of the 170 matriculants enrolled at the school, 97 achieved bachelor passes while 49 achieved diploma passes.

“What helped me to achieve great marks through the year was using my resources to get answers. Besides the study camps, I would go onto YouTube and watch how different people solve maths problems,” he explained.
