The second opening day match at the KES Easter Festival delivered fireworks on the hockey turf, as Parktown Boys’ High School 1st XI rallied from behind to secure an impressive 3–1 victory over a spirited St Charles College side on April 17.
The late afternoon encounter crackled with intensity from the outset, offering a perfect blend of schoolboy passion and tactical sharpness.

St Charles struck first, finding the net in the dying moments of the first quarter. Owen Widdows showed a cool head under pressure, slipping the ball past the Parktown keeper to hand the visitors from Pietermaritzburg an early advantage.
St Charles looked in control with their tails up, forcing Parktown to dig deep.
But dig they did.
The second quarter saw Parktown respond with grit and flair. Elethu Bam ignited the comeback with a stunning equaliser — a thunderous strike that left the goalkeeper with no chance and the home supporters in full voice.
That goal proved to be the turning point.
With momentum shifting, Parktown tightened its grip on the game. The third quarter saw them assert dominance in midfield, and when a defensive lapse offered an opening, Zeyad Davids reacted quickest, calmly slotting in the go-ahead goal.

Parktown wasn’t done. A flowing team move early in the final quarter carved open the St Charles defence, and Ndyebo Pongwana applied the finishing touch — a composed strike that capped off a brilliant passage of play and effectively sealed the win.

There was a worrying moment late on as Humaid Timol took a knock to the jaw and was forced off the pitch. Thankfully, early indications suggest the injury is not serious.
Among those celebrating was Parktown supporter Benjamin Maule, who summed up the mood: “The boys performed amazingly. We worked as a team and it felt like there was a strong connection between the teammates.”
As second matches go, this one set a high bar — full of fight, flair and fine finishes. Parktown’s 3–1 victory not only showcased their resilience but laid down an early marker in what promises to be an action-packed Easter Festival.
